Homeless Support Action Team (HSAT) was started to help the homeless population in our local community. Our team comprise of a small group of committed members who came together to brainstorm on how we can help the poor and homeless around us.
- Blessing Bags which comprise of items such as dry socks, finger nail clippers, a comb and or a hair brush, soap, shampoo, skin lotion, a bottle water and some snacks, in the winter it would include a rain poncho. Due to the pandemic, this is on hold
- Bagging of laundry soap of which one individual wash is put into a snack ziplock bag and these are distributed to various shelters and homeless centers where homeless can wash their clothings. Due to the pandemic, this is on hold
- Sandwich ministry once a month we make about 300 sandwiches that are handed out to those in need at the Cathedral in downtown San Jose. We also distribute at the mobil showers where homeless comes to take a hot shower.
- Hot meals twice a week was started since the pandemic to help with the hunger that is so pervalent in our neighbourhood. This serves the Shower to the People! community in San Jose.
- Meals for the foster families; twice a year we cook and serve meals for the foster families of Catholic Charity. Once at Thanksgiving and another during the summer.
Much of these good works are financed with grants and fund raisers. However with the pandemic, we are unable to have our much needed fund raisers hence we currently only providing sandwiches and hot meals at the Cathedral and the showers.
