Faith Formation is a lifelong process beginning with the holy sacrament of Baptism, the first Sacrament of Initiation. At Baptism we become a "child of God" and a member of the church, the Body of Christ. Whether we become a member of the Church as an infant, teen, young adult or older adult, our faith journey begins from that moment on.
Why must we form our faith? The Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist) begin our journey of faith. In order for our faith to grow, it must be formed, nourished and sustained. Our faith must become living, active and conscious; a way of life for the Christian.
While religious instruction is important in helping us to grow in the knowledge of our Catholic faith, the goal is to grow in our faith so as to be transformed into missionary disciples, thereby being equipped to proclaim the Good News to all those we encounter! This is how we build the Kingdom of Heaven. This is the mission entrusted to us by Jesus.
Just as we take care of our physical bodies with daily nutrition and exercise, so must we take care of our “spiritual” bodies for the salvation of our souls. Our goal is to get to heaven to spend eternity with God and to help and accompany our sisters and brothers along this very same journey. There is nothing more important than our salvation.
The Domestic Church is your Home
The domestic church is the “church of the home” where the Christian family is ordinarily the first experience of the Christian community and the primary environment for growth in faith. Within the Christian family, parents are the primary educators in the faith and the “the first heralds of the faith with regard to their children.” (Lumen Gentum, no. 11)
Parents witness the love of God by the love they have for each other, their family, their community and the environment. They also witness this love of God through their participation in prayer and especially in the holy Eucharist.
